Montana Varnish is an acid-free, quick drying, clear varnish made with Montana's unique NC-acrylic base, suitable for interior or exterior use. It is available in gloss, semi-gloss or matt finish, as indicated by the donut on the top of the can. It can be used to protect paint, charcoal and other media on surfaces like canvas, paper, bast fibre and wood, without adding a yellowish tinge or desaturating the underlying colours. The varnish protects against oxidation and UV light, and the more coats applied, the stronger the UV protection.
Ensure the surface is dry and clean of dust, oils and rust before applying the varnish. Shake the can well for 2-3 minutes, upside down, then apply varnish in several thin layers, spraying before the previous coat is fully dry but with 2 minutes between each coat. Further coats might require a drying time of 24 hours or more depending on substrate. It is not compatible with synthetic base lacquers, so always test on a non-visible area to check compatibility of lacquer or paint.
